Thursday Reflection: Time Out

I need only be still,
 and let the day unfold
as it is meant to.

While I normally advocate active navigation of one’s own life, there are days when a time out is called for; days to accept that perfect control is an illusion and to trust that what we did not plan might bring us just what we need at that time.
.
A quiet bench, a moment of pause and a modicum of faith can still the chatter in our heads and reveal to us a world of possibilities we might otherwise not see.

Poets United has introduced an exciting new feature called 'Reflection' into it's Thursday Think Tank. On the first Thursday of each month, the talented Ellen Wilson will graciously provide us with a photo prompt around which to build a poem. If you find this as much fun as I do, check out other work at the link below!

Another Utah Watery Wednesday

I've been blogging about a recent trip my husband and I took to the U.S.

.
I remembered a wonderfully placid lake we'd stopped at in northern Utah, just before we crossed the border into Wyoming. The water was as still as I'd seen anywhere, and the colourful Fall foliage was reflected as a perfect mirror image.
.
It seemed a grand choice of post for Watery Wednesday! What do you think?

White Rock Water

A short distance from our home is the charming seaside town of White Rock. Over the years we have spent countless hours there.. romping on the beach when our kids were small..strolling the pier..stopping for fish-and-chips or ice-cream cones. And always...always...watching with fascination the ever-changing play of shadow and light drifting magically over the water.
.
This summer we were drawn there often, most frequently as the day drew to its close
and the setting sun dabbed highlights of colour onto waves of hammered silver.

Water calls to me..captivates me..soothes my soul as little else can. I try desperately to capture its magic on film,
but fall short when faced with the full scope of its majesty.
.
The open sea sings its siren song and I am destined always to fall under its spell...

I'm linking this post to Watery Wednesday! For more photos that are damp, doused and drenched check out the link below!.

Return to Finn Slough

We returned to the quaint fishing community of Finn Slough another weekend. This time the tide was higher than on our previous visit.

With camera in hand once more, I took pictures, to document the contrast between high tide and low...

Low tide

...high tide.

We returned for a third time on a cold, wet day. I did not have my camera with me , fearing damage from the rain, and so cannot show that day's tide, which was so exceedingly low that a few fishing boats were almost completely out of water.
.
I know we will return to this spot often, drawn by its sense of timelessness, a rare, calm oasis in these congested times...
