Thursday Think Tank: Market Day

Photo supplied by Poets United

.
Cool to the touch,
succulent flesh
yields grudgingly
to hands that
reach out and
grasp in need.
.
.
Fingers stroke
soft, lush skin...
imagining how
lips might also
trail across this
naked pleasure.
.
Were you mine
my tongue would
taste your juice,
would savour
each fragrant drop
of sweetness.
.
Come to me…
my eager mouth
will not rest
‘til I am sated
on the repast
of your love.

.
I’m amused to watch the care with which discerning shoppers choose their fruit. They sniff, peer, probe and stroke…no detail is overlooked by those who seek the very best. I find myself wondering if their loved ones are afforded the same intense level of consideration that the dewy peach takes as its due!

When I saw that Poets United Thursday Think Tank prompt was, "Market Day", this piece came to mind. For more takes on the theme, check out the link below...

This tongue-in-cheek senryu came to me today as I was pondering the difficulties people have in understanding one another. Our lives might be easier if they came with a script, but we wouldn't enjoy the movie quite so much if we knew what to expect at every turn of the page, would we?

Thursday Think Tank: Ocean Waters

So still it seems not

to move, yet life's tide pulls us

onward to the sea...
I am linking this post with Poets United, Thursday Think Tank. To read more poems about things oceanic, do check out the link below...

And my heartfelt thanks to all who left such kind words about the loss of our boy, Oreo. The blogging world is just bursting with caring souls who understand family is about more than just its people. I will definitely be stopping by to visit each and every one of you...:)

Thursday Reflection: Time Out

I need only be still,
 and let the day unfold
as it is meant to.

While I normally advocate active navigation of one’s own life, there are days when a time out is called for; days to accept that perfect control is an illusion and to trust that what we did not plan might bring us just what we need at that time.
.
A quiet bench, a moment of pause and a modicum of faith can still the chatter in our heads and reveal to us a world of possibilities we might otherwise not see.
.
.

Poets United has introduced an exciting new feature called 'Reflection' into it's Thursday Think Tank. On the first Thursday of each month, the talented Ellen Wilson will graciously provide us with a photo prompt around which to build a poem. If you find this as much fun as I do, check out other work at the link below!

Microfiction Monday and Thursday Think Tank

I originally posted this poem only to Mirofiction Monday, but as it is a good match to March 10th's Think Tank prompt, I'm adding a link back to that site....

.
I came across Microfiction Monday by accident, and was drawn in immediately by this intriguing photograph of the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum in West Virginia, a facility that housed the mentally ill in the mid-1800s, and has since become an historic national landmark.
.
The site's host asks us to elucidate on the photo she provides in 140 characters or less.
This immediately came to mind...
Past empty rooms that
echo still with distant lives,
I tread with care…
mindful that the sly ghosts
of yesteryear reach out
to touch my heart and
draw me to their breasts.

Wired and Weird

In our wired world, where
wily words wield weapons,
weird
is the new normal...

A Winged Haiku

I had posted this only to Poets United, but as it seems perfect for the Haiku Heights prompt of March 13th, I'm adding the link below. Do stop by to read other poems about wings...

.
When I saw that the Poets United Think Tank prompt was ‘wings’, I immediately thought of Richard Bach, author of ‘Jonathan Livingstone Seagull.’ As a young wife and mother in the nineteen-seventies, I embraced his reworking of words which have with time become clichéd:
.
‘If you love someone, set them free. If they come back they're yours; if they don't they never were."Because it touched me deeply at the time, I offer my own interpretation of the quote...
.
.
.
I would wish you wings
with which to soar the world…and
bring you home to me.

I live close to the sea on the west coast of Canada and spend a lot of time watching seagulls. The photos above were taken at nearby Steveston and White Rock. My elusive quest for the quintessential shot of a bird in flight is ongoing!

A Water Haiku

Like the waters of
a stream, your love rubs smooth the
edges of my life...
