As is normal in the Fall, Vancouver has turned gray, damp and cold. Sunday afternoon found us taking a chilly walk through Surrey's Serpentine Fen.
.
Because I was unimpressed with the photos I got, I thought to flip a few and see what happened.
Above at left is the original shot, taken across the river. When I turn it upside down, the sky seems to shimmer with light.
Mallard Ducks were
lazily swimming up the Serpentine River.
Turning the picture upside down gives me a mirror image of the ducks.
The Fen is a waterfowl sanctuary, so there are many birds to be seen. Several viewing towers around the property allow one an overview of the area.
.
This top photo is the flip side of the one below it. I like the ghostly look of the trees, as if a heavy fog was rolling in.
The sun showed itself briefly, and lent colour to the day. I quickly snapped a few photos of stunted posts in the river.

Wow, what a cool idea. I love comparing the mirrored shots and seeing the effects of light and shimmer. The upside down viewing tower is spectacular, as is the bottom shot gone abstract. Wonderful! Nice to see you posting!
Excellent photos.
Sydney - City and Suburbs
What a great idea! My favourite is the posts....the last one.(Not the Last Post!) Reversed they seem to be quite mystical, floating in nothing!
I recognice that soo much. At least you had some fun playing around with it. I DO like the original photo of the stunted posts in the river.
I was beginning to go crossed eyed working out which way was up lol Lots of fun though
Beautiful....I don't think it's gray, damp and dreary looking at all!!
HARBOR LIGHTS CHRISTMAS PARADE
My link above for Watery Wednesday. Hope you can stop by for a visit and view. Happy day!!!
Lynette,
I just love your glorious images. You have all the poetic inspiration captured on film and all around you!
I do have to say, much more photogenic, than the dear old Ormeau Road, especially now!!!!
Glad I stopped by your blog Lynette.
Best wishes, Eileen :)
It's grey here in Ontario too, I'm afraid, although today the sun is shining for a change. I like your reflection shots very much.
Very cool! And trip-y lol ;)
Ah, yes! It's gray here in Seattle as well! But you've captured some fantastic reflections! I particularly love the bare trees reflected in the water! Could be a painting! Superb! Hope you have a great weekend, perhaps a wee bit of sun???? Hopefully!

You had a very reflective day! The shots, especially the birds shots, are really beautiful! Nice find!
I love what happened with the watchtower in the reflection! Enjoy your weekend!
Very good, some of them really are hard to tell!
Very nice presentation of your shots, which are very beautiful, by the way... Well done !
What a collection and each one a dazzler! For a favorite I'll take the Mallards.
I'm in love with your photo's! Just lovely. You have a great eye.
Sunning photos - love the flipping. Fun!
I love the photo manipulation!
it's fun, isn't it :)
I think the ducks are my favorite
What a beautiful series of shots and reflections. Your comments on each pair is a nice accompaniment as you flip the images.
The "watery trees" are my favorite.
These are great! I love the way you've put them side by side like. I've flipped reflections before but I think this is much more interesting. Excellent post and wonderful photos!
i love this series, they seem so surreal!
