Signs, Signs: No Trespassing!

My husband and I consider ‘Do Not Enter’ signs a personal invitation to do exactly that.
.
.
I am certainly not bragging…as a mature adult, I know this attitude is ill advised and decidedly illegal.
.
Still, it is a fact that forbidden places inexorably draw us in by dint of those clear and simple signs.
.
The lure of new and curious things to discover is irresistible, for surely if there is a need to post such warnings, something good must lie ahead! We have entered decrepit buildings that dearly deserved to be explored with caution, and driven roads that challenge car and driver both.

It's true there have been a few disappointments, times when we end up nowhere, with nothing to show for an often uncomfortable trek. No matter…we have never for a minute regretted taking any one of our many detours.
.
After all, the best road is always the next one waiting to be found…
.
For more signs from all over the world, you will enjoy stopping by Lesley’s intriguing meme, ‘Signs, Signs’ at the link below…

And if you want to read more of our trespassing adventures, here is a short and similar post...

You would have loved the sign my dad posted at the foot of a hill, at the bottom of a road that led only to our house and to nowhere else. It read: "Private road. Trespassers will be shot on sight. Beware of vicious dogs and bull in pasture."
We had one very unvicious collie named Wag, but the meter-reader was scared to bits by the sign and freaked when Wag came up to be petted. Anyone with half a brain could have figured out that there couldn't have been a bull because there couldn't possibly have been a pasture on that hill and therefore extrapolated that the bit about the dog was a joke as well.
My father was a funny guy, a bit of a renaissance man: a musician, an artist, a writer, a photographer - and had a wry wit.
As for you and your husband, I can almost understand you taking "Do Not Enter" as a dare, but "Danger" signs? Especially "Extremely Dangerous"? Ooh, you are much braver than I am.

Your comments always make me grin, and I've not forgotten that you called me a scofflaw last time I did a post like this..loved it..LOL!

And Kay:
Your dad's sign would definitely be the highlight of my collection...that's just a wonderfully funny story about it. As for Mike and I being brave, I'd say we long ago tumbled headlong into just plain foolhardy!

Lynette...:)

Great post. For us it is like an invitation too. And - sometimes - we go beyond.
I like signs, all kind, because they are so photogenic.

That's funny Lynette -- you're braver than I. I'd like to think we have inquiring minds and we always wonder what's down little side roads. Hikes often used to go somewhere we didn't plan on. And Unless we're pulling our long RV we often drive down one for no reason at all. But the 'danger' sign would stop me!

Great collection of signs! We always make detours too, but No trespassing signs stop us :-)

We usually come across those as we are coming out of somewhere, having got lost:-)

I feel the same way about gates, and fences. They must have something on the other side worth a gander! I have climbed through and over fences and gates, barbed wire and all just to check it out!

Hee hee.......great post! I love your adventurous spirit. Me....not so much......I FREAK at a mere snowfall, cancel appointments saying "I'm snowed in" when there is a mere dusting on the road. By now, everyone knows I am rather dim-witted, so they tactfully dont point out that the roads are, in fact, drivable.

I share your thoughts on 'don't do' signs. They evoke your curiosity. Of course i take 'beware of dogs' gate-post at its face value, and keep off the place.

Mixed feelings. I usually respect such signs, especially posted land. Growing up where men with guns were serious about enforcing their "No Trespassing" signs might have something to do with my attitude. Then, again, maybe I'm just a wuss and lack your adventurous spirit.

I think some is getting very rich from selling "No Trespassing" signs. In rural Ontario they seem to be everywhere. Nice photos.
